Batch Find and Replace Text in Multiple DWG Files
Update the same text across a whole set of drawings at once — online, without opening a single one in AutoCAD.
Upload your DWG files, define find-and-replace rules, and download the corrected drawings with a line-by-line report of everything that changed. Processing runs on Autodesk's own cloud engine, so nothing is converted or reverse-engineered — what comes back is a normal DWG in the same version it went in.
- Up to 1,000 drawings in one batch
- Audit report of every change and every skip
- Original DWG version preserved
- No AutoCAD license required
Every place text
hides in a DWG.
One rule set is applied across all the entity types that actually hold text — including the ones desktop scripts routinely miss. Rules run in model space, in every paper space layout, and inside block definitions.
| Entity | What it covers |
|---|---|
| TEXT | Single-line text across model space and every paper layout |
| MTEXT | Multiline text, with inline formatting codes preserved intact |
| ATTRIB | Block attributes — title blocks, tags, part labels |
| DIMENSION | Dimension text overrides only, never the measured value |
| TABLE | Table cells, including schedules and bills of materials |
| MULTILEADER | Leader and callout text |
| BLOCK DEFS | Text nested inside block definitions, not just placed instances |
Never guessed: a match that cannot be replaced cleanly — for example, a target split across MTEXT formatting codes — is skipped, listed in your audit report with its location, and left exactly as it was. The drawing is never silently corrupted.

Drop your drawings
Up to 1,000 DWG files go straight from your browser to secure Autodesk cloud storage over an encrypted link. They never pass through our servers.
Real AutoCAD does the work
Your rules run inside Autodesk's own AutoCAD engine in the cloud — the same core that opens the file on your desk. Full DWG fidelity, no third-party converters.
DWG plus proof of what changed
Get the corrected DWG in the same version it came in, a PDF plot of each drawing, and a line-by-line audit report of every replacement and every skip.
One pair, or a whole
spreadsheet.
A job can be a single find-and-replace pair or a list pasted straight from Excel. Matching is controlled for the batch, with per-rule exceptions where you need them.
Case sensitivity
Set the default for the whole batch and override it on any individual rule.
Whole-word matching
Restrict a rule so it only matches a complete word, never a fragment inside a longer string.
Longest match first
Overlapping rules apply in a defined order, so a short rule can never eat part of a longer target.
CSV import and export
Bring a rule list in from a file, and export the set you ran for your records.
No AutoCAD? No problem.
Everything runs online, in the browser. There is no script to load, no plugin to install, and no CAD seat needed on your machine — which also means the person fixing the text does not have to be the person with the AutoCAD license. Document controllers, project managers and BIM coordinators can edit DWG text online and hand the CAD team back a corrected set.
Online DWG editors and viewers can change one string in one file at a time. The point here is the batch: the same rules applied to hundreds of drawings in one run, by the genuine AutoCAD engine, with proof of what changed.
Built to be checked,
not trusted blindly.
Audit report
Every replacement logged — entity, layer, layout, old value, new value. Skips are included, with the reason.
PDF preview
A plot of each corrected drawing, on by default and optional on big batches, so you can eyeball the result before you rely on it.
48-hour delete
Uploads and outputs are deleted from active storage within 48 hours, automatically. Your drawings are not our asset.
Failed files refund
If a file fails to process, its credit is refunded automatically — no support ticket needed.
The classic job,
and the alternatives.
Title blocks
A client renamed, a revision note, a project number, an address — repeated in the corner of every sheet in the set. Attributes, plain text and every paper space layout are covered.

Find & replace corrects text; it does not translate it. To turn notes, title blocks and tables into another language — with every proposed line reviewed by you before it is written — use Translate mode on the same engine.

Frequently asked
questions.
How do I find and replace text in multiple AutoCAD drawings at once?
Upload the drawings to docuredo in your browser, enter one or more find-and-replace rules (or paste a list from Excel), and run the batch. Every drawing is processed by the genuine AutoCAD engine in the cloud, and you download the corrected files with a report of every change.
Can I replace text in a DWG file without AutoCAD installed?
Yes. Processing runs on Autodesk's own cloud engine under our account, so you only need a browser. Nothing is installed, and no AutoCAD license or CAD seat is required on your side.
Does AutoCAD's built-in FIND command work across multiple drawings?
No — FIND works inside one open drawing at a time. Working through a folder of drawings means opening each one and repeating the search, which is exactly the manual loop a batch tool removes.
Does it work for AutoCAD LT users?
Yes. Popular free batch scripts rely on AutoLISP and ObjectDBX, which their published versions cannot use on AutoCAD LT. docuredo runs in the browser instead, so LT users can batch-replace text without loading any script.
Can I use a spreadsheet of replacements?
Yes. Paste a list of find-and-replace rows straight from Excel, or import a CSV. You can also export the rule set you ran for your records.
What text does it change — and what does it never touch?
It covers single-line text, multiline text, block attributes, dimension text overrides, table cells and leaders — in model space, every paper space layout and inside block definitions. It never changes measured dimension values, geometry or layers, and a match that cannot be replaced cleanly is skipped and reported, never guessed.
Is my DWG converted to another format?
No. The file is edited by the real AutoCAD engine and saved back as a normal DWG in the same version it came in. The PDF you get alongside is a verification preview, not a conversion.
How many drawings can I process at once?
Up to 1,000 drawings per batch, with per-file progress. If a file fails to process, its credit is refunded automatically.
